About Joshua Bryan

Joshua Bryan is Director of the Financial Services, Legal, HR and Support division in Tokyo at global recruiting consultancy Robert Walters, with 8 teams of specialist recruiters. He has spent nearly 20 years living in Japan, including nearly 15 years within the global business community in Tokyo.

Joshua joined Robert Walters Japan in 2007, initially with a focus on the financial services industry. Through subsequent varied chapters of his career recruiting in Tokyo he has gained experience supporting a wide range of industries and specialisms including Legal and HR professionals. He was appointed Director for the Financial Services, Legal, HR & Support division in 2015 and today leads 50 specialized recruiters.

He is passionate about equality and human rights, and currently serves on the Robert Walters Global Diversity & Inclusion Council as the lead representative for the Asia-Pacific region. He also serves as Secretary of the Board for TELL Japan (NPO), the leading provider of mental health services in Japan. He is also an active supporter of Lawyers for LGBT & Allies Network (NPO), promoting marriage equality.

Joshua holds a Postgraduate Diploma from Centro de Arte & Comunicaçao Visual in Lisbon Portugal and BA in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art Herriot-Watt University.

David has over 15 years in leadership roles bridging the international and Japanese communities, both in the public and private sectors. He serves as CEO of Japan Transfers KK and Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Japan Transfers was founded in 2020 with the prime focus of matching whole family needs in the relocation and settlement process in Japan for the international executive and diplomatic community.

Prior to founding Japan Transfers KK, David was a provincial government representative in Japan for many years, providing daily interaction with the foreign community here. Over the years, hearing from many friends and colleagues about their challenges and frustrations with their relocation experiences to Japan, where the executive is taken care of, but the rest of the family is left to their own devices, coupled with his broad network and knowledge of expatriate life in Japan prompted him to establish Japan Transfers KK.

Kevin Smythe had a background in financial operations and international expansion of businesses. As Director of Sales & Marketing at Tricor, he provides support and advice for overseas companies looking toward expansion into the Japanese market.

He began his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young in Silicon Valley. After leaving public account, he held various financial leadership positions at technology companies, helping establish the processes need to support rapid growth. He joined Tricor in 2019 to focus on the unique challenges of establishing businesses in Japan.

Kevin holds a BA in Accounting from the University of Washington in Seattle.
