Our annual client seminar on 12 November 2018 was again a demonstration of the support that Tricor enjoys in Hong Kong. Over 1,300 participants gathered at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai for an afternoon, sharing the latest in corporate governance and regulatory updates.

Natalia Seng, Tricor’s CEO – China and Hong Kong, extended a warm welcome to everyone, before Lennard Yong, our Group CEO, outlined recent milestones in Tricor’s history.

Andrew Weir of KPMG, who is also Chairman of the HKEX Listing Committee, eloquently talked about the risks associated with opening up the Hong Kong capital market to new economy companies – high-growth companies from emerging and innovative sectors.

Next, Ricky Lee of Duff & Phelps China presented the methodologies used in valuating innovative and pre-revenue biotech companies.

After the tea break, Dr Kelvin Wong of COSCO SHIPPING Ports and an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) of 7 listed companies in Hong Kong, gave his insights into the evolving role of INEDs, before moderating a panel discussion on how best to ensure and optimize the role of INEDs in Hong Kong-listed companies. The expert panel, consisting of Glendy Choi of D&G Technology Holding, Julianne Doe of Dentons Hong Kong LLP, and Dr Lee George Lam of Hong Kong Cyberport Management, offered interesting perspectives from their respective backgrounds.

Finally, Tricor executives YT Soon, Terry Ip and Sherman Luk presented 6 cases to illustrate certain practices that may affect the smooth running of issuers’ general meetings, from a share registrar’s perspective.

We thank our participants for their positive feedback and constructive suggestions, and look forward to their participation at other Tricor events.
